Fillings, also called Restorations, are designed to remove decay and repair the tooth. Sometimes this is because of a cavity, but fillings are also used for chips, minor breaks or to repair from the wear of grinding.
Most fillings can be completed in one office visit. One type of dental restoration is the Direct Tooth Restoration. Dr. Felix will use this method by placing the filling into the prepared tooth cavity. There are a variety of options for this kind of filling, and we will discuss these options with you before your restoration.
Sometimes a restoration involves an indirect tooth restoration, called an inlay or an onlay. This type of restoration may require more than one office visit because the inlay/onlay is constructed in a dental lab.
If you have excessive tooth decay, have cracked the tooth, grind your teeth or need to repair your bite, you may need a crown. A dental crown covers all or most of the tooth, protecting it from any further damage.
Fitting you with a crown will take more than one visit to our office. First the tooth must be repaired and prepared for the crown. The crown is made in the dental lab, and Dr. Felix oversees the production to make sure it fits properly and looks great. At your final visit, Dr. Felix will secure the crown.
Nobody wants a root canal, but sometimes the best option to save your tooth and prevent the need for a dental implant is a root canal. Root canals can relieve dental pain and save your smile.
During a root canal the infected or inflamed pulp of your tooth is removed and the inside of your tooth is carefully disinfected and then sealed. After the root canal your tooth is restored with a crown or a filling. Your tooth will continue to function.
Saving your natural tooth with a root canal has many advantages, including:
- keeping your chewing efficient
- maintaining normal biting force and sensation
- maintaining a natural appearance
- protecting your other teeth from excessive wear or strain
Bridges are designed to bridge the gap between one or more missing teeth. They are made up of crowns on the teeth anchoring the gap and a false teeth in between. Dental bridges are supported by your natural teeth or by implants.
- give you back your confident smile
- allow you to chew and speak properly
- maintain the shape of your jaw and face
- prevent excess wear or force on other teeth
- prevent other teeth from moving out of position
There are a variety of different bridges available. We will discuss the options with you, and come up with a treatment plan that best suits your needs.
Dentures and Partials
Dentures and partials are removable false teeth that are designed to replace missing teeth. The number of existing natural teeth you have will determine what kind of dentures or partial you might need.
Dentures and partials are created just for you and will match your existing teeth, so they are not noticeable. Getting used to dentures or partials does take some time and they must be brushed daily. We will help you with a dental care plan to keep your dentures or partials healthy.
Depending on the stage of the disease, periodontal therapy can involve a variety of therapies. Deep cleaning, called scaling and root planning, is a non-surgical procedure, done with local anesthetic, where tartar and plaque are removed below the gum line and rough spots on the tooth are made smooth.
If you need treatment beyond deep cleaning, Dr. Felix will refer you to one of our trusted dental specialists.
